ABOUT
Being an artist:
Long before I went off to college, I knew that I enjoyed working with my hands and making things. And I was fulfilled whether it was making dolls, sewing, painting, drawing or doing a 3-D school project.
When I went off to college to study science, I didn't have much time for creative projects. Then I took a drawing class and I'm not really sure how it all happened, but somehow I ended up a fine arts major. The turpentine, power tools, printing press and sculpture studio were all calling my name and I couldn't resist!
Now I split my time between painting and stained glass. Normally I'm inside a studio but on a rare occasion, I've been spotted outside painting with my mom on a sunny day in Nantasket. It's nice to get some fresh air!
On Stained Glass:
I use the copper-foil technique, often referred to as the Tiffany technique, and this involves applying a thin layer of copper to each piece of glass and then burnishing the copper to the glass. I then solder (melt metal) the pieces of glass together with an iron using lead-free solder which is composed of copper, tin and silver.
